A series of training sessions were well-received by Viet Nam Statisticians

Aries Consult recently provided a 7-day training course on data visualisation and analytics for 22 specialists from the General Statistics Office (GSO) and a second training course for 20 journalists on data analytics and data-driven story-telling in Vietnam in December 2018. The courses were well-received by both groups, with participants expressing appreciation for the objective setting, program design, quality of the trainer, and the usefulness of the course for their respective roles.

The main focus of the GSO training was on data analysis and data-driven story telling, with a specific emphasis on communicating the achievements on the Sustainable Development Goals. The Mr. Verheyden organized practical exercises for participants to gain hands-on experience with different software platforms and also emphasized the importance of data warehousing and data management as part of a business intelligence process. The GSO management expressed appreciation for the visualisation methods and techniques acquired and requested follow-up courses at the provincial level.

The training for journalists received strong appreciation from participants on all aspects, including the well-designed program that incorporated both theory and practical exercises. Participants also highly appreciated the relevance of the topic to their roles as journalists, including finding and analysing data, using infographics to disseminate information, and other skills. Suggestions for improvement included providing hard copies of training materials and further reference lists and resources on the topic.

Overall, the training courses provided by Aries Consult Ltd. were highly successful and well-received by both the GSO specialists and journalists in Vietnam. We hope to continue providing valuable training and support in the future.
